Artist, writer, maker, mother, wanderer, wonderer…
A series of transformative experiences led Jennifer Steele Evans back to creativity as a way of making sense of the world. Through motherhood, loss, deception, anxiety - and facing the possibility of losing her sight - her perception of reality dissolved and reformed. Drawing, painting, dance and writing became the gateway to reconnect with her inner self - the exiled child who once trespassed into forbidden gardens seeking adventure and escape from a cold and controlling home life. Art has become her constant - a silent, nourishing and healing force within the chaos of change. Reconnecting with the natural and spiritual world, she now embraces creativity as an intuitive, instinctive way of living.
Jennifer believes in the power of embodied creativity and its deep connection to the hidden and forgotten stories within landscapes. As a contemporary fine artist and writer, she seeks to create totems of light, hope, and contemplation.
Raised in the ancient borderlands between Wales and England by Welsh and Polish parents, she has a profound connection to hinterlands - places where land, sea, and sky converge. Now a self-taught artist based in West Yorkshire, Jennifer has been mentored in Contemporary Fine Art with the Essential School of Painting, alongside courses with The Royal Drawing School and Leeds College of Art (now Leeds Arts University).
In 2024, she was selected for the Ones to Watch exhibition at Sunny Bank Mills, showcasing Yorkshire’s top emerging creative talent. Before returning to art, she studied Politics and Communications at the University of Liverpool and worked in brand communication and fashion. She is also a personal trainer, a clothes maker, a mother to Seren - and a little bit obsessed with history, tarot, dreamy skies and the natural cycles of life, death and rebirth.
